It is obvious to me that the mattress is enclosed in a plastic hypo-allergenic mattress cover. The cover has a rip in it, revealing the pink colored mattress inside. All of my mattresses have these covers on them and they get a little brittle after several years and tear easily- but the mattresses stay nice and clean.
