  • Update to YSaC, Vol. 333: Database fail LIVE!

A while back I posted this shining example of when spambots go hilariously awry, featuring this post:

    The craigs list – 34

Hello. I am an MAN looking for an WOMAN who is LAID BACK. I am 21 years old and I like to WATERSKIING and also to CAMPING. I am a good sense of humor with a fun and tall.

My favorite movies are TITANIC, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, and [ERROR: MOVIE NOT FOUND], but I’m not into chick flicks.

I like to take my dog, MIFFY in the back seet of my HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR CYCLE. Maybe you would like to ride with us?

My favorite music bands are ABBA, AC//DC, and AIROSMITH.

Not content to leave awful enough alone, boyofutica has turned this post into a live-action dating video:

This. Is. Awesome. The rubber duckie bit at the end made me cry with laughter. Thank you!!

  • YSaC, Vol. 362: Bonus points for an alexandrine.

    free bike

    free bike it wokes nice
    giving out to any1
    cant ride no more

This is, disappointingly, one syllable (and one profound meaning) short of a haiku.

I think more people should write their Craigslist ads in poetic meters. Imagine reading ads in iambic tetrameter:

    The dainty water fountain and
The graceful neck of swans aloft
Conceal the greater truth since it’s
A lamp with dolphins, damn it all.

And speaking of the rare dolphin-swan lamp-fountain, Althea sent me an email pointing out that the “swan fountain” had been recently relisted with the exact same text (and same price). Obviously they would have had more success selling it if they used my quatrain above.

Bike post sent in by atomic cate — thanks!

  • Update to YSaC, Vol. CLVIII: The mountain WAS made of pure snow after all!

Hmmmm … Caroline sends along this link to a news story, saying, “This is a follow up to the person “looking for a ski ticket“…she should probably stop looking now.”

Six arrested in California ski sting

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif., Feb. 25 (UPI) — Police say six California residents have been arrested in a sting operation that offered ski-lift tickets in exchange for drugs.

Mono County sheriff’s deputies told The Orange County (Calif.) Register Wednesday that the suspects were busted after answering an ad posted on Craigslist.com that offered to swap ticket vouchers for the Mammoth Lakes ski area for narcotics.

Department spokeswoman Shannon Kendall told the Register that the operation netted a pound of marijuana and quantities of cocaine, ecstasy and prescription pills.

Four Orange County residents and two people from San Luis Obispo and Highland Park were arrested Friday and were in jail Wednesday on various drug-related charges.

    Original news story available here.

    Thanks for the tip, Caroline!

  • YSaC, Vol. 205: The finest, handcrafted Italian French furniture.

An update! Qu’elle surprise … for some inexplicable reason, some French Prudential furniture that was listed earlier on Craigslist did not sell (mon Dieu!), so they’ve dropped the price and are trying again.

french prudential corner china closet – $300

1 corner china closet ,french prudential

    call any time #xxx-xxx-xxxx

french prudential furniture set – $4000

For $4000 or best offer you will be getting 4 piece sofa set ,3 piece table set,a small bar stand, two lamps,1 big mirrow . that’s a 11 piece set .all french prudential al italian made,it could be sold seperately or togethere

    call any time #xxx-xxx-xxxx

It’s nice to see that some things don’t change, including a complete disregard for common rules of punctuation and spelling, n’est-ce pas? However, we now find out that French Prudential furniture is made by some Italian named Al.

And I’m kind of liking the word “togethere”. It implies that everyone in a group is all in the same place, and is somewhere else … over there. They are togethere. It is, how the French say, le mot juste.

  • YSaC, Vol. 203: What has been seen cannot be un-seen.

Some of you may remember this post, which involved someone trying to sell these hideous “Garfield” and “Teddy Bear” costumes.

    129a1129b1

I just wanted to highlight something that “Kelly” pointed out in the comments to that post:

“Whoa, is it just me or does the guy in the bear suit have his junk hanging out through a hole in the crotch?”

What think ye, YSaC-ers? Have we been dick-rolled?

  • YSaC, Vol. 200: OMGWTFBBQ??!!!1!one!1I!

The 200th post seems like a good time to make a change. I’ve decided the Roman numerals are irritating, and am abandoning them for numbers and the occasional snarky headline. You may direct complaints to the complaint department at your nearest Circuit City.

Anyway, in honor of YSaC’s 200th post, I’d like to do something a little different. As proprietress of this here web site, there’s a lot of things I can track about the comings and goings of people. One of the things I can see is what combination of words people type into a search engine that ends up bringing them to this site. As I’m about to illustrate, it’s almost weirder than the things that end up getting posted.

      let me get you craigslist
(No thanks, you see, I’ve already got one.)

      code word craiglists mushrooms
(If you don’t know the code word, you’re not cool enough to buy mushrooms. I already know I’m not cool enough, so don’t come here looking for answers!)

      colloms for wedding cake
(I first read this as “Gollums for wedding cake”, which brought up a hilarious mental image of Gollum sitting on top of the cake with the wedding rings … my precioussssssssss)

      ponies free on graigslist
      (Some people shouldn’t have ponies.)

someone had advertised shit tzus on crai
      (Or Shih Tzus.)

      does accounting suck
      (Yes.)

      lacawates valtrus-suka
(This is probably the result of someone reading this post and double checking to see if there are any other results [which there aren’t, although the Tucson Craigslist shows up because that’s where the original post was], but I still like the idea of there actually being something called a “lacawates valtrus-suka” that people are looking up and then arriving here.)

      personals what does discrete mean
(This poor person is going to end up so confused.)

my husband is looking at casual encounters
(Maybe he’s looking for things to send here? If not, take note, folks — that’s a pretty good excuse.)

      crt205 homework
(If only it were that easy.)

      save my soul craigslist
(I don’t think Craigslist has the power to do that. This site, however, certainly does, so you’ve come to the right place!)
